About Stella Ehrich

The most profound influence on Stella Ehrich’s work developed from the sixteen years that she lived and painted in Italy.  During that time she studied for seven years in Florence in the atelier of Signorina Nerina Simi, whose instruction was based on the rigorous discipline of French academic training combined with Italian Maccioli traditions.

Stella is a figurative painter who has lived in North Bennington since 1991.  Born in New Orleans and raised in Clarksdale, Mississippi, she earned a B.F.A. in painting from the Memphis Academy of Art and an M.F.A. in painting from Bennington College.   She has taught as an adjunct professor at Williams College, the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts, Bennington College and the Community College of Vermont.  Stella and her husband teach a summer workshop for painters and sculptors in Tuscany.  Her paintings have been exhibited extensively in England, Italy and the United States, and are included in numerous public and private collections both here and abroad.
