The Bennington Center for the Arts boasts seven large galleries which are home to temporary exhibitions by many of the finest representational artists from around the country, as well as an extensive collection of wildlife art, paintings by Eric Sloane and detailed wooden bird carvings by Floyd Scholz. In addition, The Bennington Center for the Arts houses a covered bridge museum, a collection of Native American artifacts and art works, studio space, and a lovely 320 seat theater equipped with a world class Fazioli piano.

Movement Lab: Saturday, November 11

The Movement Academy believes that the strength of connection between artist and audience rests on a thorough consideration of movements’ many elements including the physical and beyond.

THE MOVEMENT ACADEMY, founded by Chicago-based stage and movement director Elizabeth Margolius, is thrilled to announce its inaugural event in Vermont to be held at the Bennington Center for the Arts.

This immersive one-day movement workshop will explore movement techniques from around the world to unlock new ways of storytelling through body and space.  This workshop is appropriate for ages 16 and up.  No previous dance/movement background is required!

Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 10am-4pm

COST: $100, due upon acceptance.  Become a member and receive a 10% discount!

You may request a lunch from Your Belly's Deli for delivery for an additional $12.

If you are in need of lodging, a 20% discount is available for workshop participants at The Four Chimney's Inn.

Applications are due on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance no later than Thursday, November 2, 2017. Once accepted, payment in full is required in order to secure your place.

Elizabeth Margolius

Stage Director | Movement Director

Elizabeth Margolius is a Chicago-based multiple Jeff Award nominated stage and movement director with a primary focus in developing and directing new and rarely produced musical theatre, operetta, and opera. She has worked with theatres throughout the country in various capacities including the Santa Fe Opera, Florida Studio Theatre, the Virginia Shakespeare Festival, and New York’s Encompass New Opera Theatre.  Elizabeth has been a guest director and master artist at numerous colleges and universities including the University of Northern Iowa, Harper College, Converse School of Music, DePaul University, SUNY Albany, and Skidmore College.

Elizabeth’s directorial credits include: Machinal for Greenhouse Theater (Movement Director/Jeff Recommended, 2017), The Bridges of Madison County for Peninsula Players (Door County, Wisconsin), Uncle Philip’s Coat for Greenhouse Theater (Joseph Jefferson nomination for Best Solo Performance, 2017), code name: CYNTHIA for FWD Theatre Project Haymarket: The Anarchist’s Songbook for Underscore Theatre (nominated for two Joseph Jefferson awards including Best New Musical), L’Occasione Fa Il Ladro for DePaul Opera Theatre, The Girl in the Train for Chicago Folks Operetta, Twelfth Night for DePaul Opera Theatre, Goldstar, Ohio for American Theater Company, The Merry Wives of Windsor for Chicago Shakespeare Theater (Assistant Director to Barbara Gaines), The Last Cyclist for Genesis Theatrical Productions, The Land of Smiles and The Cousin from Nowhere for Chicago Folks Operetta, Death Takes a Holiday for Circle Theatre, Opus 1861 for City Lit Theater (nominated for three Joseph Jefferson Awards, including her nomination for Best Adaptation), Violet for Bailiwick Chicago (nominated for five Joseph Jefferson Awards, including Best Musical and her nomination for Best Director of a Musical)  and Bernarda Alba and Songs for a New World for Bohemian Theatre Ensemble. 

Elizabeth is an alumna of the 2004 and 2005 Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab in New York, a 2007 recipient of a full directorial scholarship at the Wesley Balk Opera-Music Theater Institute in Minneapolis, a 2009 respondent and workshop artist for the Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival, and a 2010 finalist for the Charles Abbott Fellowship. She is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director Emeritus of DirectorsLabChicago. Elizabeth is an associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
