A History of Plein Air Painting in Santa Catalina Island

Add to Cart

For more than a century, artists have flocked to Santa Catalina Island, finding it an ideal setting in which to give their talents free rein. There, one is surrounded by images that are ripe for plein air painting: delightful street scenes, distinctive architecture,  charming harbors, and plenty of wild rugged coastline. Color and light reign supreme.

Enchanted Isle features work of over 90 early and contemporary plein air painters who have been inspired by the spectacular beauty of Santa Catalina. Through their depictions, we experience the nuances of nature as only the eye of an artist can reveal them.
