The Laumeister Fine Art Competition, exhibiting July 29th to September 17th, 2017, will also be open for submissions starting this week. Now in its eighth year, the competition has given us the great opportunity to work with many renowned fine artists. This year’s show will be juried by fine artist Calvin Liang, Master Member of the Oil Painters of America and American Impressionist Society. His work as a professional oil painter has been featured numerous times in fine art publications such as Art of the West and American Artist magazines. It is a pleasure to once again be working with such distinguished artists as guest jurors.

Artists for the New Century

The Bennington

The Bennington Center for the Arts is pleased to announce that invitations have been sent out for our upcoming show, Artists for the New Century. Exhibited only every 5 years, Artists for the New Century offers a unique opportunity to celebrate distinguished members of the fine art community.

Starksboro Vermont by Mark Boedges

Starksboro Vermont by Mark Boedges

Artists were hand-selected by the editors of 5 prominent fine art magazines: American Art Collector, Art of the West, Fine Art Connoisseur, PleinAir Magazine, and Southwest Art. The editors were asked to select artists whose work they have noticed to be consistently strong, and who they feel deserve to be recognized for their talents.

These artists will each send in a piece they feel is indicative of their body of work, and pieces will be exhibited at The Bennington from September 9th to December 23rd, 2017. Of the work exhibited, each magazine will select one artist to be featured with a full-page ad or editorial. We are excited to once again feature strong artists who will continue to be important in the art world for years to come.

Wildscapes has Opened!

The Bennington

As of June 11th 2016, our Wildscapes exhibit has opened to the public in place of our annual Art of the Animal Kingdom exhibition. We've hosted and loved AAK for 20 years but felt that we wanted to open the show to more diversity. While the show still features wildlife works of art of all varieties, it also now features landscapes and seascapes that depict the beauty of the world we live in.

We are also honored to have had landscape/maritime artist Donald Demers jury this show. Demers works have been featured in publications such as, American Artist Magazine, Plein Air Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur and many more. He is a "fellow" of the American Society of Marine Artists, and elected member of both The Guild of Boston Artists and California Art Club, and a signature member of Plein Air Painters of America.

Our Permanent Collection:

We've re-opened to the public and for the first time in almost 2 years we are able to feature artwork from The Laumeister Collection in ALL of our galleries. Our collection has over 800 pieces in it in a wide variety of media, that have been collected by our Founders Bruce Laumeister and Elizabeth Small together and separately over the course of some 40 years.

A large portion of our wildlife collection has been brought out and is being displayed in 3 exhibitions complementing each other. The Hunters, represents the many predators of the wild and The Hunted, shows the animals that often fall prey to them. The third exhibition is solely focused on Birds of all shapes and sizes and features such artists as Nancy Howe, Morten Solberg, and Carl Brenders.

Some of these exhibits include artwork that hasn't been on public display in our galleries for years and we are thrilled to be able to share them with our patrons. For example, Women features the largest piece in our collection, Rome Beauties by Timothy Tyler. We've also gathered a variety of paintings in celebration of the beauty of our New England area in our first ever Impressions of New England from the Laumeister Collection.
