“I've been drawing since I was a child in Staten Island, NY and feel as though I was born with a pencil in my hand. And it's the American west which I choose to capture. The call of the west is always pulling me. I've spent much time traveling in the western US visiting museums, galleries and historic sites, and attending equine competitions which inspire my artistic vision.

The pencil (in this piece charcoal and carbon) is my tool of choice because its precision results in the viewer seeing an "energy" in my art. I'm able to get deep blacks with charcoal along with fine details by overlaying with carbon. I draw on gessoboard which enables me to add layers of varnish on my finished drawings so they can be treated like oil paintings - hung without the need of glass or even a frame. Realism is my primary goal. I want my subjects to look as though they will come to life and walk off the paper.”
